The Period Distribution dialog can be opened via the Period Distribution button in the Control tab of the Ribbon. To open the Edit period distribution dialog, click the symbol above the Period Distribution button. This dialog is used to create, copy and edit period distributions. To create a new distribution based on an already existing one, click the arrow under the period distribution symbol and select Add Period Distribution. If you selected a field reference before opening the dialog, the period distribution of this field reference is read out and established as a new distribution.

On the left side of the dialog, the existing distributions of all datasets in the currently active session are displayed. Above you can see two buttons with which you can add new period distributions and delete existing ones. Right-click a distribution to copy, insert, add and delete distributions. It is also possible to copy distributions from one dataset to another in the currently active session. If you drag an existing distribution on one of the displayed datasets, it is copied into the dataset automatically.

When copying distributions between datasets with different periods, please keep in mind that distributions are transferred based on their Period ID. This means that the period distributions are copied to the target dataset in the same order regardless of the period names. For example, copying distributions from a 2012 to 2014 dataset to a 2011 to 2014 dataset would return the following result:

On the right side of the dialog you can edit existing distributions. Here you can also change and carry forward the name, type and value.

  • Name: In this field, the name of the selected distribution is displayed and can also be edited. The distribution is displayed in the list including the entered name and an abbreviation of the selected type.
  • 'Type: You can define a type for each distribution. Two types of distributions can be used:
    • Amount: The monthly values are calculated based on the quarterly and annual values.
    • Average: Quarterly and annual values are calculated as an average of the monthly values.
  • Value: In the listed period schema you can change the values of the distribution for each period. You cannot enter any values for periods that are grayed out.

On the right side of the dialog, you can see two buttons. They only become active when you select one of the periods in the dialog. The first button enables you to carry the distribution over to the following year. Clicking the second button, you can transfer the distribution to all following years.

To apply a distribution, go to the Control tab in the Ribbon and select an existing distribution from the drop-down box in the Period Distribution section. Then select the field reference on which you would like to apply the distribution and click the Execute Period Distribution button below the drop-down box.

The dialog can be opened via the Time distribution button in the Input bar.
